Fabulous Croatia and Slovenia

Arrival at one of the airports in the region. Transfer to the hotel and accommodation in Ljubljana. The following morning, we will have a guided visit of Ljubljana, the city that is cultural, financial and industrial centre of Slovenia. There is also a beautiful medieval castle that we are going to visit. We will reach it with a short funicular ride.

From there you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city and the surrounding nature. We will see the old town with its medieval and baroque parts and the most important sights, such as Prešeren Square, Robba Fountain, City Hall, Dragon Bridge and the Cathedral. Walking along the banks of Ljubljanica river, we will reach the Congress Square (Kongresni trg) where we will see the exterior of the University and Slovenian Philharmonic buildings. We will continue our walk to the French Revolution Square and to the Roman wall.

We will enter the National and University Library – it is one of the works of the architect Jože Plečnik whose various urban projects have turned the city into a form of artwork.

We will conclude our tour by passing next to the Parliament, National Museum and National Gallery until we reach the beautiful Tivoli Park. In the afternoon you will have free time to enjoy everything that the capital city has to offer, have a coffee at one of the many bars that line up along the river, visit some of its beautiful parks and taste the typical food. Accommodation.

After breakfast departure to Bled, one of the most popular Slovenian tourist places.  There we can enjoy the natural beauty and the splendour of its turquoise lake. Optionally you may visit the lake island with the traditional boat Pletna and climb the 99 stone steps to reach the Baroque style Church of the Assumption of Mary. There you can also ring the “wishing bell”.  The visit of the Bled Castle will reward you with a marvellous panoramic view. This castle from the 12th century also houses the printing museum.  It is also an important protocol site for meetings and weddings. We recommend tasting the famous local dessert, Bled cream cake called “kremšnita”.

If the weather conditions allow us, we may visit Blejski Vintgar, the gorge excavated by the Radovna river. The path allows us to explore the core of the gorge and to enjoy its unique nature. We will visit the typical alpine region of Bohinj and enter the Triglav national park in its southeast part. There we will see the biggest glacial lake of Slovenia surrounded by Julian Alps, beautiful forests and its two medieval churches. Accommodation.

Departure to the southeast of Slovenia for a visit of Postojna cave where its stalactites and stalagmites form a true underground paradise that was carved by the Pivka river. It impresses with its magnitude of 24 kilometres of connected caves. The visit takes place with the train and partly on foot. Afterwards we will visit the Predjama Castle, which is located and constructed on a 123-metre-high cliff and connected with a cave. It is one of the most beautiful and special sights in Central Europe.  The castle is among the Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle. You will also learn about the legend of the knight Eramsus, the Slovenian Robin Hood.

We continue our journey towards the Slovenian coast.  Stop at the Socerb castle where you can see a remarkable panoramic view of the Gulf of Trieste.

We will pass through Izola and Portorož and then visit the city of Piran, former territory of the Republic of Venice, where the scent of the Adriatic gives a special charm to its streets and neighbourhoods. We will conclude the day in the city of Koper with a tour of the historic centre of the city, which was once an island.  Accommodation.

Breakfast and departure to Istra, the biggest peninsula of the Adriatic Sea. We will visit Rovinj, one of the most charming cities in Croatia. Our journey continues to Pula, the city that is the capital of the peninsula since its earliest existence. The city is rich with Roman legacy. You will be able to see the amphitheatre built in the first century, the Triumphal Arch of the Sergii and the temple of Emperor Augustus, a precious monument bearing almost two millennia. We will conclude the day in Opatija where you may take a stroll in the park of Villa Angiolina and wait for the sunset at city's splendid waterfront. Accommodation.

Breakfast. Departure to Plitvice Lakes, a Croatian national park on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The park embraces 16 small lakes divided into upper and lower lakes, separated by 130 metres of altitude difference and connected with 92 waterfalls and numerous streams. We will visit the park by walking on dedicated paths and partly also by boat. In the park you can enjoy the crystal clear water, lush forests and very rich flora and fauna. Departure to the capital of Croatia. Accommodation.

DAYS 7 and 8: ZAGREB

Arrival at Zagreb airport and transfer to the hotel. Accommodation.
Breakfast. Guided visit of the city of Zagreb, the Croatian capital and its biggest city.
It is a very modern city, but at the same time it also features a charming medieval old town with beautiful architecture. The city centre is divided in two parts. The first is Upper Town (Gornji Grad) where you can visit the Presidential Palace, the iconic church of Saint Mark, the Croatian Parliament (Sabor) and many museums and galleries.
The other part, called Lower Town (Donji Grad) is the liveliest where we will see shops, parks and theatres and where we will have lunch in one of the restaurants with local cuisine. We will walk to the city’s most famous square dedicated to Ban Jelačić and visit the Mimara Museum, one of the city's art museums. Accommodation.
